Concrete Work in the DeSoto County Seat
Arcadia is the DeSoto County seat and one of the oldest towns we serve, and concrete contractors in Arcadia work on everything from historic downtown homes to rural slabs. Arcadia was incorporated in 1886, and about 3,400 acres, including downtown, are part of the Arcadia Historic District. A Thanksgiving Day fire in 1905 destroyed much of the town. We pour driveways, walks, steps, porches, barn and shop slabs, and pads, and we repair older concrete.
Higher ground than the coast
Arcadia sits much higher than the coastal towns: the city's listed elevation is 56 feet, most of it is above 40 feet, and parts near the center reach 65 feet. That helps with drainage on most lots. The Peace River runs past the west side of the city on its way to Punta Gorda, though, and during Hurricane Ian in 2022 the river flooded heavily and State Road 72 collapsed. Properties near the river need the same care with base and grade as anywhere on the coast.
Historic homes
In the historic district, front walks, steps and porch landings are part of the street view. When we replace them, we pay attention to width, joint spacing and finish so the new work looks at home next to old brick, wood and stone. A plain broom finish usually suits these homes better than stamped patterns. We work around old trees and roots carefully, and we keep the new walk at the same line as the old one unless you want a change.
Storm history
Hurricane Charley's eye passed over Arcadia in 2004, with winds reaching 109 mph, and about 3,600 homes in the area were destroyed or heavily damaged. Ian crossed the city as a Category 3 in 2022. After both storms, a lot of concrete was cracked by debris removal and rebuilding. Replacing those broken driveways and walks is still part of our work here.
Rural lots and rodeo country
Arcadia hosts three rodeos a year, and much of the land around town is ranch and farm country. Rural properties bring different jobs: long driveways, barn and shop floors, wash pads, feed room slabs and pads for water tanks and equipment. Those slabs need a good base across the whole footprint, a thickness matched to the load, and control joints at proper spacing. US 17, State Road 70 and State Road 72 all meet near downtown, so trucks reach most properties easily.

Arcadia Questions
Can you replace front steps on a historic Arcadia home?
Yes. We match the width, line and finish to suit the house, usually a plain broom finish, and work carefully around old trees and foundations.
Do you pour barn and shop floors?
Yes. We prepare the base across the whole footprint, size the thickness for the load and cut control joints. Tell us what equipment will be on the slab.
Do I need a permit in Arcadia?
It depends on whether you are inside city limits or in rural DeSoto County, and on whether the work reaches the road. We check which rules apply to your address before we schedule.
